Abstract
This special issue was planned in conjunction with the international meeting entitled “The Legacy of Nitric Oxide Discovery: Impact on Disease Biology” held at Rajiv Gandhi Centre for Biotechnology, an autonomous institution of the Department of Biotechnology, Ministry of Science & Technology, Government of India in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, India during November 5–6, 2013. The meeting was attended by internationally acclaimed researchers working on nitric oxide (NO) and its association with disease biology, including the Nobel Laureate Ferid Murad. A major focus of this conference was the impact of NO signaling pathways on diseases of the plant and animal kingdom, with some emphasis on human pathology. Understandably, the majority of the manuscripts included in this special issue originate from Indian laboratories with about 25% from other countries.
